Tyonie Patterson is the author of the Tamia T. Scott Series. Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, she is a proud alumna of Prairie View A&M University and Hampton University. Tyonie is deeply passionate about supporting children’s speech and language development, with a strong emphasis on literacy-based activities.

She created the Tamia T. Scott Series as a resource for parents, educators, and organizations to help children learn foundational concepts such as counting, colors, prepositions, and vocabulary. These basic concepts are essential for strengthening children’s comprehension and expressive language skills.

In addition, Tyonie developed this series to celebrate African American children as main characters in literature. Currently, only 12% of children’s books feature African Americans as protagonists, with even lower representation for other minority groups. Tyonie believes that diversifying children’s bookshelves fosters connection, relatability, and self-worth. The Tamia T. Scott Series is an engaging and meaningful resource for parents, educators, and therapists to use with their children.
